Ardeche Slope. A workshop where the gear is built. Six generations on.

We carry ski and snowboard gear. That's the whole brief.

Three staff work the floor full-time. One handles bindings and boot fitting. One knows the snowboard side — flex ratings, stance angles, camber profiles. The third runs the workshop: edge bevels, base repairs, binding mounts. We service roughly 1,400 pairs of skis and boards a year. Most of them come back the following season.

We don't stock fashion colourways or gear specced for Instagram. We don't carry beginner packages dressed up as performance kit. If a shell is rated to 20,000mm hydrostatic head and weighs 490g in a medium, we say so. If it isn't worth the price, it doesn't make the shelf.

The range runs from all-mountain carving skis and 4-piece travel rods through to hardshell jackets built on 3-layer GORE-TEX Pro, wading boots with Vibram Idrogrip soles, and merino base layers at 200gsm. Everything has a spec sheet. Nothing is described as 'innovative'.

Customers here tend to be men who've been buying gear for twenty years and have learned to read a spec before they trust a claim. We stock accordingly. Join the community of experienced riders and skiers who've trusted us since we opened — people who'd rather ask one good question than read three pages of branding.

We started in 2011 when Pieter Vandermeer cleared out a storage unit and put six skis and a workbench in it. It grew from there.

Gear for the mountain

Find what you need for the next run.

Skis, boards, shells and boots — field-tested before they land on the rack. If it didn't hold up in real conditions, we don't stock it.

Field notes

Honest write-ups from the field.

Verified buyers, real expeditions. We don't filter for tone — only for whether the kit was actually used.

★★★★★

"Picked up the Ardeche Slope four-piece 8wt last autumn and put it through three back-to-back wet days on a spate river. Fast action loads cleanly under a quartering wind and the tip has enough give to protect light tippet when you're fishing the far bank seam. Hardware feels like it'll outlast me. I've owned rods twice the price that didn't perform this well in cold, wet conditions."

"The 3-layer shell I ordered arrived in good shape and fits true to size. Seams are fully taped, YKK AquaGuard zips run smooth even after a full day in driving sleet. DWR held through three wet sessions without reproofing. Exactly what the spec sheet said it would be."

★★★★☆

"Solid first experience. Ordered the wading boots — Vibram Megagrip outsole, GORE-TEX lined, and they fit exactly as the size guide described. Delivery took nine days, which was a day or two longer than I expected, but the packaging was careful and everything arrived intact. The shop answered a pre-order question by email the same day. I'd come back."

★★★★★

"Wore the Ardeche Slope mid-layer — 200gsm merino — across ten days of mixed mountain weather. Dried overnight in a tent, no smell by day four, which matters on a long trip. The flatlock seams sat fine under a pack hip belt for eight hours. I'll be ordering the 150gsm version for summer use."

★★★☆☆

"The 45L pack is well-made — internal aluminium stay, load-lifter straps that actually work, 210D ripstop holds up to rough handling. My one complaint is the hip belt padding compressed noticeably after the first long day out. Functional, not uncomfortable, but I expected it to hold its shape longer at this price point. Everything else is exactly as described."

★★★★★

"The Goodyear-welted stalking boots have been on my feet for two full seasons now. Resoleable, which matters to me — I've thrown away too many boots that couldn't be repaired. Fit is D width as listed, true to size. Vibram Idrogrip held on wet slate without drama. These are keepers."

Questions we get from the shop floor.

Sizing, boot flex, binding setup, what works in variable snow. Straight answers, no upsell.

01 What shell material is the Ridge Hardshell Jacket made from?

3-layer 70D GORE-TEX Pro recycled nylon, fully seam-sealed. It runs at 395g in a size M. The hood is helmet-compatible and the pit zips are YKK AquaGuard. Built for high-output days where the weather doesn't cooperate — freeride terrain, variable ridge conditions, full days above the treeline. Not a resort jacket. If you spend most of your time on groomers, the Arc PrimaLoft is the better call.

02 How warm is the Arc PrimaLoft Jacket for lift-accessed skiing?

PrimaLoft Gold insulation, 133g fill weight. Warm enough for cold chairlift exposure, light enough that you're not sweating on a hard run. The shell is 20D Pertex Quantum, so it packs small. It's not a belay jacket — if you're standing still in -20°C wind for extended periods, layer it under the Ridge Hardshell. For three-season alpine use between October and April, it covers most days.

03 What merino base layer weight should I use for cold ski days?

The Nordwall Merino Base Layer runs at 200gsm — mid-weight, right for active skiing in cold conditions. 150gsm is next-to-skin light touring. 200gsm is the one most people reach for when the temperature drops below -10°C and they're not generating constant heat. It won't itch. Machine wash at 30°C, lay flat to dry. Don't tumble-dry merino.

04 Which skis suit a freeride skier moving from piste to off-piste?

The Talus Freeride Skis. Wider underfoot, rockered tip and tail, built for variable snow — crud, wind slab, soft powder. If you're mostly on-piste with occasional off-trail excursions, the Edgeline Carving Skis are the better fit. The Edgeline is a stiffer, narrower ski designed for edge-to-edge performance on hard pack. Two different tools. Which one fits depends on where you actually ski, not where you'd like to ski.

05 Do you ship to the UK, Switzerland, and Norway after Brexit?

Yes. UK, Switzerland, and Norway all receive standard shipping. Duties and import fees are not included in the product price for those destinations — they're assessed at the border and collected by the carrier. EU orders ship DDP (delivered duty paid), so no surprise charges on delivery. Typical transit is 3-5 working days within the EU, 5-8 days to UK and Norway. Tracking number sent when the order leaves the warehouse.

06 What does your warranty cover on hardshell jackets and ski pants?

Manufacturing defects and seam failure — covered. DWR fading after normal wash cycles is expected and not a defect; we'll walk you through reproofing. Damage from abrasion, crampons, ski edges, or improper storage isn't covered under warranty, but we'll assess repair costs honestly. The Couloir Bib Pants and Ridge Hardshell both carry a two-year warranty on construction. Bring them in or contact us via the Contacts page.

07 Can I return gear if the sizing is wrong?

Yes. Unworn, with tags attached, within 30 days. Sizing on the Couloir Bib Pants runs true to European sizing — check the fit guide on the product page before ordering. If you're between sizes on the Ridge Hardshell and plan to layer a mid-layer underneath, size up. Exchanges are processed within 3 working days of us receiving the return. Sale items are final.

08 How do I reproof a GORE-TEX shell when water stops beading?

First wash the jacket — a clean DWR responds better than a dirty one. Machine wash at 30°C with a technical cleaner like Nikwax Tech Wash. Then either tumble-dry on low heat for 20 minutes or apply a spray-on DWR treatment like Nikwax TX.Direct while the jacket is still damp. The heat reactivates the factory finish. If it still wets out after that, the DWR layer is exhausted — apply a wash-in treatment. Takes about 40 minutes total.

Is this gear for you?

You measure success in seasons. Not in seasons on Instagram.

01

You've been at it long enough to know which compromises matter on day eight, not day one.

02

You read material specs before marketing — denier counts, fill weights, GPM ratings.

03

You'd rather buy one piece this decade than three over the same span.

04

You want to talk to someone who's actually been out in the field, not a script in a call centre.

Built for men aged 35-65+ — established working professionals, craftsmen, and longtime collectors.
